MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama lawmaker who recently left the Democratic Party says he didn't originate but may have forwarded an email that contained offensive language about President Barrack Obama and Democratic U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi.
Randolph County Democratic Party Executive Committee member Mellie Parrish of Lineville says state Rep. Richard Laird of Roanoke recently sent her the email.
She said it arrived shortly before Laird announced this week he was leaving the Democratic Party to become an independent.
A copy of the email provided to The Associated Press contains a picture of Obama giving Pelosi a kiss on the cheek. It implies the president is a Muslim and includes a derogatory reference to Pelosi's appearance. Obama is a Christian.
Laird says he doesn't like the policies of the president or Pelosi.
