MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Emergency responders waited Thursday evening for the Carnival Triumph to arrive. Mobile Fire-Rescue partnered with local and private organizations to provide medical assistance to passengers.
Local 15 News learned late Thursday afternoon that a woman suffered a stroke on board. She was evacuated from the Triumph and taken onshore for treatment.
Emergency responders also have crews on hand at the Cruise Terminal when the passengers disembark.
Mobile Fire-Rescue had a dozen ambulances and nearly 24 paramedics on hand to help Triumph passengers.
Local 15's Modupe Idowu spoke to one mother who said her daughter is living in a Porta Potty. She described it, saying her daughter was sleeping on a mattress drenched in urine.
Health experts say exposure to sewage can lead to staff infections and much more.
Mobile Fire-Rescue officials said they loaded up on supplies for passengers.
"We will be on standby. We will stage the units offsite and if our services are needed, by all means we will be providing that service," said Steve Huffman, Mobile Fire-Rescue.
Mobile Infirmary reached out to Carnival to offer a medical triage at the Cruise Terminal, but Mobile Infirmary said Carnival declined.
Carnival said it would come up with its own plan to assist the passengers.
