(BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala.) Elberta Police Chief Mickey Pledger has been arrested and is charged with filing a false police report, firing into an occupied building and tampering with evidence.
On Feb. 13, Pledger claimed a man standing outside his office fired at him when he walked out. The Baldwin County Sheriffs Office has been investigating the case.
Pledger agreed to a polygraph this afternoon. Deputies say he failed it and during an interview he admitted to firing his back-up weapon into his own office while another officer was in the building. Deputies say he also admitted to firing his police-issued weapon into the ground, telling responding officers that he returned fire. Deputies say he also admitted to planting a shell casing after the incident.
Pledger is in the Baldwin County jail tonight on a $12,000 bond.
Elberta's Mayor says Pledger is suspended from the force until an internal investigation is complete.
