ESCO Deputy Injured In Shooting, Out of Surgery

PENSACOLA, Fl. (WPMI) -- An Escambia County Deputy Sheriff who was shot Wednesday night is now out of surgery and expected to fully recover, Local 15 News learned Thursday morning.

The injured deputy, Sgt. Shedrick Johnson had been rushed to Sacred Heart Hospital after being shot in the leg after responding to a robbery call, according to an ECSO spokesperson.

There was an exchange of gunfire after deputies responded to the 8800 block of Burning Tree Road near Meadowbrook Drive in the Scenic Hills, the official said. The scene is just southwest of the University of West Florida campus.

Two suspects were taken into custody at the scene. Their names have not been publicly released.
