(MOBILE, Ala.)   Starting on April 1, local farmers will be required to verify workers through the new E-Verify system.

This is one of the new requirements in Alabama's immigration law. It applies to farms that do business with government or public agencies.

Governor Robert Bentley said Saturday that it's an easy process that has to be done.

"All we ask is that people who live and work in Alabama do so legally. And we ask companies who hire their workers, we just need to make sure that they're legal citizens," Bentley said.

The system and training are available online for free.
