Drivers Beware: Speeding Crackdown Underway

CREOLA, Ala. (AP) - Drivers on U.S. 43 in the Mobile County city of Creola may notice more state troopers and police patrols this week.

Beginning Monday, police say there will be strict enforcement of the 50 mph speed limit on the four-lane leading into and out of Creola.

The state Department of Transportation has joined troopers and Creola police in a highway safety campaign. U.S.43 connects to Interstate 65 and leads to the new ThyssenKrupp steel mill under construction, boosting traffic.

Officials will place message signs at each town limit reminding motorists to slow down and drive the posted speed limit.

Transportation officials will study the U.S. 43 corridor and determine if a lowered speed limit is justified in Creola based on federal speed limit criteria.
