Maples Pleads Guilty
(BAY MINETTE, Ala.) Nov. 20 - The man who drove drunk and hit three cyclists with his BMW plead guilty and accepted his fate in court Friday.
A judge sentenced Bradford Maples, 28, to one year in jail for one count of drunk driving under the influence and three counts of assault. Maples has already served 69 days in jail; the judge suspended the rest of his sentence.
Monday, Maples will be moved to an alcohol-treatment center. After he completes a treatment program, Maples will be on probation for 2 years.
The judge also ordered Maples pay restitution to the victims totally more than $16,000.
He still faces a public intoxication charge. Maples was arrested on that charge outside a bar in downtown Fairhope after he hit the cyclists.
