MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Dr. Bernard Eichold is the 2012 Mobilian of the Year. Dr. Eichold has been working for decades in the community on everything from smoking in public places to the teen pregnancy rate, something Eichold said he couldn't have done without the support of his family.
"It's something I've learned and watched since my earliest days," he said.
What Eichold said he recognizes most about the Port City is the comradery, the community coming together to make it a better place.
"There's truly a love for the community, the people who live here that motivates me on a regular basis to get involved and to try to make it a better place," Eichold added.
It's been years in the making, and now Eichold is reeping the benefits of serving his community.
"There are many many great leaders who have come before me. I am pleased, honored and surprised that I have risen to the level to be recognized by the community in such a way," he said. "The community is a wonderful place and Mobile is very very special."
Dr. Eichold was honored Tuesday morning at the University of South Alabama. The Mobilian of the Year banquet will be Thursday, April 4, at the USA Mitchell Center at 6 p.m.
