TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities now say 55 people were hurt when a floor collapsed during a party at an apartment complex, nearly twice as many as first thought.

Tallahassee Fire Department spokesman Mike Bellamy tells the Tallahassee Democrat that more than 100 people were at the party when the floor collapsed just after 1:20 a.m. Sunday at the Seminole Grand Apartments.

Bellamy says seven people had to be helped out by ladder because a staircase was blocked.

It was not clear what caused the floor to collapse. City Manager Michelle Bono says building inspectors were on the scene.

Police say most of the injuries were broken bones and sprains. No deaths were reported.

A woman at the party says the collapse was "like riding a roller coaster with no seat belts."
