MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Bars and restaurants in downtown Mobile are getting their plastic cups ready. The entertainment districts will open Wednesday afternoon.
You will now be allowed to carry an alcoholic beverage outside within the districts. However, you cannot bring drinks from home.
Bar owners say they aren't expecting too big of crowd Wednesday. Police say they will step up and help this weekend. Police Chief Micheal T. Williams said he would like more money from the city to hire permanent officers for the district.
"I hope it's a good thing. I hope if I'm at Heroes and I'm not quite finished with my drink I can walk out the door with my drink," said downtown Mobile resident Robyn Warren.
"At 4 p.m., I intend to walk the streets of downtown Mobile with a nice high gravity beer," added David Rasp, Heroes Bar and Grill owner.
