(MOBILE, Ala.) - Monique Williams has a message for the family of Brittney Wood and all other families with a missing loved one this holiday season.
“Don’t ever give up, ever,” Williams said, wiping away tears. “I know the pain can be so hard.”
This Thanksgiving marks the five year anniversary of her mother’s disappearance.
“The holidays are supposed to be joyous times,” Williams told Local 15. “For me and my family, this is the worst.”
50-year-old Doretha Williams vanished without a trace in 2007 after getting a ride to the Ryland Street area. While her disappearance has been ruled suspicious, Monique said leads have been very slim.
“I’m never giving up on my mom,” Williams said. “The pain is no better than it was five years ago…but you got to have hope.”
A person came forward with a promising tip, but Williams said it turned out he just wanted the reward money.
But Williams said the most important thing for families with missing loved ones is to stay hopeful when the situation seems hopeless.
“I know what the pain feels like,” Williams said. “But I know someone is going to come forth, or something is going to come to the surface. I believe it.”
