BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A South Florida man who killed two of his sons before killing himself had declined an invitation to a party hours earlier, saying he had to do "something important."
Boynton Beach police say Isidro Zavala killed his 12- and 11-year-old sons early Saturday in front of his estranged wife at her home. Victoria Zavala was not injured.
Isidro Zavala's roommate tells The Palm Beach Post that he last saw Zavala on Friday evening. Mariano Batalla says Zavala declined to join him at a party because "he had to do something important."
Batalla says he returned from the party around midnight and repeatedly called Zavala, who never answered. He says police woke him at 5 a.m. to tell him what had happened.
Batalla says Zavala was a gentle, kind friend.
