(MOBILE, Ala.) - It's been a week since a University of South Alabama student was shot and killed on campus by a campus police officer.

Just after one o'clock last Saturday, Officer Trevis Austin fired one shot at Collar, hitting him in the chest. Officials said Collar was naked, unarmed and acting erratically banging on the window of the campus police department.

Austin, with his gun already drawn, tried to talk down Collar several times as the teen advanced toward him in an aggressive manner.

Mobile County Sheriff's Department investigators believe Collar may have taken LSD that night. Evidence shows Collar may have gotten the drug while attending Bayfest in downtown Mobile.

Sheriff Sam Cochran said, in addition to the investigation into Collar's death, they plan to charge the person who gave Collar the LSD with murder, as the illegal act led up to Collar's death.

Meanwhile, Collar's family hired attorney Jere Beasley to perform their own investigation as to whether or not the officer's use of lethal force was necessary in this case.

University officials confirmed with Local 15 News on Friday that Officer Trevis Austin had pepper spray and a baton at his disposal at the time of the shooting.

Could fear and superstition have been the reason the USAPD officer murdered Gil Collar and not that Collar was an actual threat to the officer? Take a look at this video and draw your own conclusions. I think the officer thought he had a real life zombie on his hands and being scared and superstitious murdered Collar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4awVqRr1eCo

Everyone on here obviously has no respect for a human life. Why would an 18 year old kid deserve to be shot because he's experimenting with drugs? Wow! You are a bunch of hateful people. Just because he gets up after being shot, the cop should have never tried tazing or calling for backup when he's right outside the station? The kid didn't know what was going on! He could've been going there for help- who can calm down with a gun pointed at them? I bet each one of you would have more compassion if it were your 18 year that made a bad decision... maybe being grounded, suspended, arrested BUT KILLED?! No wonder this cop is getting away with murder, with all these folks with no heart around! It makes me sick! Yes, LSD is illegal and bad but it does not kill you!! The gun of Officer Trevis Austin killed him and he should be punished. He should have done more to spare a life. He should have been taught that in training. He did decide to protect and serve as his job, right? Gil Collar acted "erratic", he never actually harmed anyone, he never tried to attack. Don't forget that. Should you be killed for what you COULD have done, or what you never even tried to do? This is someone's child! Have you ever made a mistake? Has your child ever made a mistake? Did you deserve to die for it? You should all be ashamed for yourselves for not seeing someone else's life, especially a child's, as special as your own.

I still do not understand why Local 15 News is trying make this into what it is not. Unfortunately a student ( like some do) got a hold of a bad drug. The drug drove the student crazy, he did the wrong and a cop doing his job killed him. The cop did what he should have done- period. Now- I doubt the Collar family contacted Jere Beasley to represent them in this matter. But I strongly suspect that Jere Beasley contacted the family- because he is a crooked lawyer and he intends to sue the state of Alabama. I suspect he sees an easy couple hundred thousand with little effort on his part. The state has a large bank account. Any time a notorious crook makes a big splash....there is big easy money available.

The punk got back up after being shot which is typical of taking drugs like lsd so does anyone really thing pepper spray or a night stick would have kept the cop from getting hurt ? Running around naked acting crazy and beating on a cop car window was evidence enough that this is a person out of their mind and not to be tangled with and since the punk was an athlete he was already strong and that would have been evident with him being naked because of his build. Also I heard reports of him assaulting other students ? AND if the cop had tried to tangle with him this punk could have taken the cops gun and killed the cop which imho wouldn't have made as big of a stink with the press or other students. The idiot screwed up, the cop did his paid duty to protect the public along with protecting himself, end of story.
