DAPHNE, Ala.(WPMI) -- Daphne Mayor Bailey Yelding, the city's first black mayor, has died.
City Attorney Jay Ross confirmed to Local 15 News that Yelding died at about 4 a.m. Tuesday. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Yelding recently requested taking an indefinite medical leave from his day to day duties at City Hall.
Ross says the Daphne City Council will have its regular meeting Tuesday tonight to decide who will become acting Mayor.
Yelding was elected mayor in October and is a former teacher and coach. Yelding served on the City Council for 11 years before being appointed last year to take over the mayoral post after Mayor Fred Small resigned.
