MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A district attorney says police appear to have been justified in shooting a Mobile man suspected of fatally stabbing one officer taking him to jail.
Mobile police spokesman Cpl. Christopher Levy said Saturday investigators were still working to piece together details surrounding the stabbing death Friday of Officer Steve Green. Hours
later, police shot and killed the man accused in the slaying, 24-year-old Lawrence Wallace Jr., after a standoff in which another officer was wounded by a gunshot.
The Press-Register reports that Mobile County District Attorney Ashley Rich says the police shooting of the suspect "appears to be justified" because the officer seems to have acted in self-defense. Still, she says she plans to let a grand jury make the final determination.
