MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) The city of Mobile is preparing to welcome more than 4,000 passengers and crew members aboard a stranded Carnival cruise ship.

The Carnival Triumph is expected to arrive Thursday afternoon at the Cruise Terminal downtown. Homeland Security, the Coast Guard, Customs and TSA are making sure the facility is secure.

Mayor Sam Jones told Local 15's Frank Morales his staff is focused on making things convenient for those thousands of weary passengers coming off the ship. Jones has called on police, fire and public works to assist Carnival in the transporting of the passengers to hotels around town.

The Battlehouse downtown has about 100 rooms reserved for passengers.

Major Jones said what's making things to fluid in this process is the city's relationship with Carnival. Everyone knows the protocol, everyone knows exactly what their jobs are.
