WILMER, Ala. (WPMI) "I told her get on the floor, she got on the floor and I threw the mattress and box spring on top of her and I got on top of that and I got thrown around the room a lot and it isn't anything real bad. Nothing Tylenol can't take of, " said George Neely, who will tell you it took quick thinking, a mattress and the good Lord to save him and his wife.
"It took about seven seconds for this thing to do what it did. It racked it and picked it up and you can look at the tie downs where they are all bent and everything," said Neely of a tornado that ripped through his trailer Christmas day.
Of the three tornados that hit Christmas day, one was right outside Wilmer near the Mississippi state line.
Everything about the Neely's survival story is absolutely amazing. A closer look, you could see how two trees on each side kept their trailer from flying into the air.
"It sounded like a helicopter taking off. If you've ever been in combat you'd know. Whoo, whoo, whoo. Then bam it twisted the trailer, picked it up. that's when I threw the mattress on her and then got on top of her," said Neely.
Neighbor Betty Eady was thanking a higher power.
"These people out here, we were terrified. My little husband is so sick he threw his little hands up in the air. I guess he thought we were gone you know," said Eady.
Folks in this rural part of town are thankful to have a survivor's story to tell.
"I don't ever want to go through it ever again ever," said Neely.
