FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WPMI) The City Council meets Monday and it's expected to vote on more than $300,000 the city has committed to Fairhope schools. It's the largest sum ever for schools and a first for the city's Education Advisory Council.

The group is making recommendations on where to spend the money. The City Council will get a detailed list of where the money will be spent. The list varies by school and there are five schools that will benefit. On the table are $350,000.

"Funds will be distributed straight from the city to the schools," said Henry Clark a member of the Education Advisory Council.

It's a big night for Clark and five other former educators on the Fairhope Education Advisory Council.

"We did make some recommendations last year but this is the first year that we've received really what we've asked for from the city so we are very pleased," said Clark.

The deal is that the money has to be dispersed equally between five schools in the Fairhope area and the money should go to technology, to buy materials, supplies and equipment that are not disposable, in other words long lasting. The council says it's what teachers wanted.

"We've been able to visit schools. We talked to principals and teachers and find out what their needs are. These are the people that are on the front lines, " said Clark.

School security is not an option for this pot of money. The Advisory Council plans to bring that up at a later date.
