(FAIRHOPE, Ala.) - Brothers and sister in law enforcement from all over the region came together with heavy hearts at the loss of deputy Scott Ward.
“It’s the same if you lost your own brother. It hurts. It hurts the whole family” said Eric McCain with the U.S. Marshal’s Office.
Deputy Ward and his wife Andraya had only been married a few years and had no children of their own. But because of his kindness, his family grew everyday.
"He was a good man. Broke my heart to see something like that happen to him. He would help. He didn't let his badge got to his head" said resident Melvin Brown.
Not only did deputy Ward make many friends after 11 years on the Baldwin County beat – those who worked with him say he had a good work ethic, and a smile they will never forget.
"Oh my heart is broken. Yes, I'll miss him. Everyday I'll miss him, yes" said former Sheriff’s office dispatcher Cheryl Peaden.
