BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Opponents of Alabama's law on illegal immigration are asking the state's international automakers to help them fight for repeal.
Critics of the law said Monday they've sent letters to Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler AG, Honda and Hyundai seeking meetings to discuss the law. The president of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Wade Henderson, says opponents want the companies to help them fight to overturn the law.
Company representatives didn't immediately return messages seeking comment. But the critics of the law say Hyundai has agreed
to an initial meeting.
Republican leaders say they're supporting minor tweaks in the law during the legislative session starting Tuesday. But they say major changes or a repeal of the law won't happen. Federal courts have put sections of the law on hold.
