BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A candlelight prayer vigil is being planned to remember those who were victims of homicides and other acts of violence in Birmingham in 2012.
The vigil is planned for 5 p.m. Monday at Kelly Ingram Park.
Al.com reports that the event comes at the end of a violent month in the metro area and across the nation.
Carolyn Johnson of the Parents Against Violence Foundation says organizers are praying for less violence in the coming year. Johnson's 20 year-old son, Rodreckus DeAndrew Johnson, was shot and killed at a birthday party on Nov. 22, 2003, in the Powderly community. The crime has never been solved.
Family members and friends of victims, clergy and community leaders will join for the Monday candle lighting as names of victims are read aloud.
