Candidates Named for Mobile Police Chief

(MOBILE, Ala.) Nov. 13 - Eight candidates have been named to possibly become Mobile's next police chief.

They are:
1. Deputy Chief Joseph Kennedy, Support Services Bureau
2. Deputy Chief Tyrone Williams, Field Operations Bureau
3. Capt. William Patrick, Precinct 4 Section
4. Capt. Eddie Burrows, Special Operations Section
5. Deputy Chief James Barber, Administrative Services Bureau
6. Major Mike Barton, Administrative Services Division
7. Capt. Carla Longmire, Community Services Section
8. Lester Hargrove, Interim Chief of Police

Mobile Mayor Sam Jones has selected nine people to serve on an Citizen Advisory Committee to screen police chief applicants. The committee will whittle the list of candidates down to three people and submit their names to the Mayor by Thanksgiving.

Those who are serving on the Advisory Committee members are:

David Cooper, Sr., VP Cooper T. Smith Corp., Committee Chair
Rev. Tyree Richburg, Pastor, Tabernacle Baptist Church
Flo Kessler, Mobile Staff Attorney
Richard Davis, Retired Educator
Carolyn McCarthy, Managing Partner, Lyons, Pipes & Cooks
Capt. Oscar Kyles, Ret. Alabama State Trooper
Makeda Nichols, Insurance Executive
Gorman Houston, Pastor, Dauphin Way United Methodist Church
Tom Purvis, Former Mobile County Sheriff

Police Chief Phillip Garrett retired from the force in September.
