(PENSACOLA, Fla.) An investigation is underway after possible human bones were found on the campus of the University of West Florida.
UWF Police and Escambia County Sheriff's Deputies are both investigating.
A group of ROTC students made the gruesome discovery Thursday evening. They were found about 25 feet away from the trail in thick brush.
Officials still aren't sure if the remains belong to a male or female, and they can't even confirm that they're human at this point.
They believe the remains have been there between six months and five years.
"I mean it's disturbing to find out that you have remains on your campus cause it's supposed to be a safe place. I'm not saying that it's not," says UWF Student, Kesley Richardson.
School leaders say there's no reason to believe there continues to be a threat on campus, but they are encouraging students to use the campus escort service and not walk alone.
