MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) The man arrested after deputies from two counties went looking for him, has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Matthew Walker was arrested February 15, and is charged with five counts of receiving stolen property and five counts of possessing a firearm with an altered serial number.
Walker pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday on those charges and probation violations. He was denied bond. Walker's preliminary hearing is set for March 14.
Last week, Washington County detectives were doing some surveillance in Rochester Place in Mobile. They saw Walker carrying several firearms. Detectives confronted him and were able to determine that the guns were used in a burglary in their county.
Investigators with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office were called in to conduct a search at Walker's home on Jeff Hamilton Road on Valentine's Day. Several items were found that deputies say were used in the burglary. Detectives also recovered a large number of gold and silver coins and more than $27,000.
