(MOBILE, Ala.) - Beach business owners say they are on the brink of failure, and they are getting the runaround from BP. Without claims checks, they say they may be forced to shutdown.
"For May alone they owed me $19,000, and I got a check for $5,000," Regatta Rentals and Sales owner Pam Sharp said. She says BP's numbers are not equating to her staying in business for much longer.
"They keep telling me I need more paperwork," Sharp said.
Sharp says she is on her third adjuster and was asked for even for information this week. This time the adjuster wants written confirmation from people who canceled to say they did so because of the oil spill. Sharp says she is almost at her wits end.
When asked if she is sleeping at night, Sharp got chocked up. "You know, you think, they've talked about how they're going to be here to help... Not been the case."
Anchor Vacations owner Donna Willis says she's has had the same issues Sharp has: numerous adjusters and requests for more documents. Like Sharp, Willis says if checks don't come soon, she'll be forced to shut down. "When it first started, I was all optimistic, not worried about anything. They said they would pay. Now we're not so sure."
