(BAYOU LA BATRE Ala.) - The Bayou La Batre Community continues to struggle two years following the oil spill.
A portion of the $4.5 billion in settlement money will go a long way to help get them back on their feet.
Gordy Wright, spokesperson for the United Seafood Association, says the oystermen were back out on the water Thrusday, and he confirmed production of oysters is low.
He says Thursday's announcement is encouraging news for his town.
"I think it's a good thing. I think the people that's representing our state and our country are behind this and making BP step up to the plate."
Former Alabama Gov. Bob Riley also reacted to the news of the BP settlement announcement.
He visited Mobile Thursday to speak at the County's Bicentennial Celebration luncheon.
"What I think we need to do in Mobile and Baldwin County is focus on what you're going to do with that money. We do have the opportunity to do some fundamentally great things here," says Riley.
The former Governor says he believes Alabama is closer than ever to a recovery, but says there are many things the state needs to do to ensure the area continues to grow.
