MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) Attorneys for Mobile Gas have requested a gag order in relation to the mercaptan spill in Eight Mile.

The order would prevent attorneys representing folks living in the area from speaking to the media.

For more than a year, Local 15 News has been following the case as residents beg the company to do something about the persistent rotten egg odor. The smell stems from a butyl mercaptan spill in the area.

"I would say it's extremely abnormal and it's a show of desperation on Mobile Gas' part." said attorney Rick Courtney.

Mobile Gas declined to comment on the gag order request.

A judge will take up the request Friday morning.

FYI... Attorney Rick Courtney is the same lawyer that sued Bredero-Price pipe company about 10 years ago that was once located near the Theodore Industrial Canal for noise pollution. This lawyer allegedly handpicked a select few of community area plaintiffs in the Belle Fontaine community so that the judgement wouldn't be lessen due to the amount of people filing suit. Result: the less people filing the larger amount of the settlement to be shared by the winners. However the greedy ones that held out for more got nothing.

There's no need for a gag order; the people of Eight Mile have been gagging for years.
