MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Mobile Police have made an arrest in a weekend shooting that left a 16-year-old girl injured.

Seventeen-year-old Justin Campbell is charged with second degree assault and reckless endangerment.

The shooting happened on Marcus Drive March 16.

Police say it started when a 16-year-old girl received threatening text messages from an ex-boyfriend. That ex-boyfriend showed up at the house, with three other people in an SUV. The girl came outside with a friend, two young sisters and her 2-year-old brother.

Police say an argument turned physical, that's when Campbell got out of the SUV and fired five times.

The children ducked behind a parked car in the front yard. The 16-year-old girl was shot once in the thigh.

"I mean, you're gonna shoot when somebody tells you to shoot, you're gonna shoot at little children? My son almost got hit in the head," said Amanda Mwok, victim's mother.

"Again, this is a 17-year-old using a handgun. (He) clearly doesn't understand the responsibilities it takes, and, really, we're all just lucky we're not working a homicide," added Mobile Police Cpl. Chris Levy.

Police say Campbell and his friends actually told the victim they were coming over for a confrontation. They say the guns used in the crime have not been recovered.

Campbell was arrested Monday, but has since bonded out.
