(MOBILE, Ala.) - Another Publix grocery store is approved for Mobile.

The planning commission approved a Publix to be built at the corner of Hillcrest and Cottage Hill Roads.

That's the site of the now closed Brunos.

Demolition on that building will start soon.

The new store will be open by the Spring of 2013.

Two other potential Publix sites have been approved on the corner of Airport and University as well as at Spring Hill Avenue and Mobile Infirmary Boulevard.

Why tear down the existing grocery store At Hillcrest and Cottage Hill Rd,Its seems to make more sense to renavate it for there need, I guess they have more money than common sense and will pass this stupidty onto the consumer !!

The location is much better here than Airport and University. Winn-Dixie, Food World, and Bruno's just drug their corporate feet too long before realizing that Walmart was a threat. I don't think either will recover- they are still too far behind the curve. Publix may can do it. "We the people" need competition for Walmart, or we are doomed.

And CAVE person mayman (or whatever) what does downtown or WB or ES have to do with Publix and its prices? Definition of a CAVE person - a Citizen Against Virtually Everything - and it the story isn't on a topic they wish to attack - they insert one from their vast library. Must be sad to live that way. Put on a Happy Face manman - it will be allright.

How about you sharpening up on your reading comprehension skills. I bundled Winn Dixie near the same "group" as Wal*Mart, below 5 on a scale of 1-10. Perhaps Winn Dixie is at a 4 and Wal*Mart is at a 2 just above the Greers Food Tiger! And as far as Oh Really's comment goes that person has been on a constant crusade on here for about 2 years promoting that criminal cess pool called Downtown Mobile.

Everytime I have shopped at Publix the prices overall have been high. The same quality food can be had for less. But is people want to spend their money there that's fine. Old Mayman - not sure what you are on this morning but my comments had nothing to do with anything except Publix. If Publix were building downtown my comments would be the same. Rachael you are right -it's hard to take mayman serious on almost anything (the WD on Government is as nice as any Publix I've been in) Sometimes old mayman does hit the nail on the head and I will have to agree with him. It's rare but it does happen. Even a broken old fashioned clock with hands is right twice a day.

I've shopped Publix in other areas for years. They are a great store with reasonable prices, big selections, and incredible service, a combination value for many consumers. And yes, good service has a price also. If you don't want to pay for it, go shop somewhere else. Personally, I think their business model gives average consumers what they are looking for. Otherwise, they certainly wouldn't be growing as fast as they are.

Soo excited for Publix in Mobile. I think the reason the service is so great is when i was talking to an associate there they were telling me how they are a privately held company and everyone that works there owns a chunk of it. Thats why they take pride in their company. BTW prices are very competitive there some higher some lower..I found that the higher priced items i buy are gourmet items they dont sell at walmart and etc.. Everyone needs to give them a shot and then decide.

@Mayhem Man, I can't take your comments as serious if you are going to put Winn Dixie on the same level as Wal-Mart. No where is worse than Wal-Mart.

@Oh Really, You have no problem encouraging people to go Downtown and spend money on useless and dangerous entertainment excursions but you criticize people if they decide to spend their money on better food and household needs. Nice concept!
