(BAYOU LA BATRE) - Another indictment has been handed up against Bayou La Batre Mayor Stan Wright. The indictment also lists Mobile grant writer Janey Galbraith.
She has been added to the earlier indictment against Wright and his daughter, Mary. Galbraith has been indicted on wire fraud charges.
The new indictment supercedes the indictment returned in late September.
The Mayor is already charged with conspiracy, theft from a program receiving federal funds, money laundering, and witness retaliation.
The newest 12 page indictment adds a charge of 'conspiracy to commit wire fraud'.
The indictment states that after Hurricane Katrina, while Safe Harbor Landing was under construction, the city of Bayou la Batre decided to purchase two small tracts of additional land to widen the entrance to the development. One was part of a larger parcel, owned by Mayor Wright.
The indictment states Wright purchased the land in 1997 for $29,000. In 2007, he transferred ownership of less than 1/4 acre to his daughter, Mary. She then sold it to the city.
The indictment states Bayou la Batre paid her more than $27,000 for the land, which she in turn allegedly wrote checks totaling that amount back to her father.
Janey Galbraith, who was hired to assist Bayou la Batre in applying for and administering grants, has also been indicted on charges of wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
The indictment says Galbraith covered-up the fact that some FEMA funds were not administered legally.
