(GULF SHORES, Ala.) Year after year, locals and tourists flock to Gulf Shores to enjoy our beaches and Tuesday, more than 300 people took the opportunity at the Annual Polar Bear Dip.
Before the plunge folks knew what they were getting into.
"Just part of the community getting ready for a great 2013 and what a better way to kick it off than to jump in to the beautiful Gulf of Mexico," said Kevin Corcoran.
The water temperature was at 65 degrees at noon. It doesn't sound cold but, "It is well below ice cube status but it's great. It's good for the kids. We are just happy and enjoying life, " said Kelly Phillips.
This event is about tradition, good luck and yes, about fashion.
"The look is something I had at home and had no idea what to do with it but now I do and it's fitting for the plunge, " said Susie Valle who dressed as an Eskimo.
The unseasonably warm New Years Day brought them all out. All kinds, all smiles, looking forward to new beginnings in 2013.
