MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) A group of cowboys on a long ride made a stop in the Port City this week.

Steven Hawke and his team are taking part in a 30,000 mile, five year trail ride. They've gone 650 miles so far.

The group was passing by the cannon in Midtown Wednesday as students and local leaders slapped a couple coats of blue and gold paint on it.

"This is an amazing concept. I understand that the kids used to get in trouble for painting it, and it's a real step forward to have a city that comes up and says you know what, this is just fun, it's not damaging anything. It's great for moral," said Steven Hawke.

The trail ride is to promote American history. CLICK HERE for more information.
