(MOBILE, AL.) May 28 -- More than 100 local workers could soon be out of a job.

The Splenda plant in McIntosh plans to shut its doors.  That's according to the plants parent company, Tate and Lyle PLC.

The artificial sweetener will now be made in singapore.

Executives said the company decided to shift all sucralose production to a newer facility to cut costs and enhance productivity.

Company officials say the facility could start laying of workers by the end of July.

The complete shut down is expected by March.
