MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Alabama senators have joined other lawmakers along the gulf to take a stand for the fishing industry.

Senators Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions request an evaluation of how the red snapper population is assessed by the federal government.

The study is intended to set more practical catch limits and fishing seasons for Alabama fishermen without endangering he fish population.

This year’s red snapper season has been shortened to just 27 days ... the shortest in history.
