Paper-

Back packs-
Kids clothes and uniforms...
Back to school can cost plenty, especially if you have more that one child... or, grandchild!
"Yes, it is on sale! We like that!"
That's shopper and grandmother Sheila Lee talking. Sheila Lee's grand daughter Riley is trying on a bright pink hat. Riley is still a couple of years away from a classroom, but Lee has 7 others that are already there. So she shops for bargains.
"That, or on line! And there's no discount and there's shipping!" says Lee.
That's why the upcoming Alabama sales tax holiday can be a budget saver.
This might be on your list- a tablet for 3.99 and then you've got to get some printer paper, of course, that's going to cost $5.54 for a pretty good sized package. How about this? A ringed binder... it's a staple for $7.49?... that's $17.12 and we're not nearly through! And that's BEFORE taxes!
In the city of Mobile, the sales tax is 9%. Now, if might not sound like much... until you reach the checkout!
Now you may think you're going to save only a couple of dollars, but depending upon what you buy the savings can be substantial. Take for instance, a notebook computer. I find one for about $330 at 5target in Bel Air Mall and take it to Chantel at her checkout desk.
"Can you tell me what the tax is on this?" I ask.
"I can!... the price si $329.69, with tax it's 359.69."
So if I get it during Mobile's tax free shopping holiday August 7, 8 or 9, I can save...
"You're saving 29.70,," says Chantel, finishing my thought.
"Wait a minute! I'm saving 29.70 cents on tax free day?"
"Yes!"
"I'm gonna wait and buy it then!" I reply.
But remember this... waiting could mean less selection and sizes. there's always a catch, isn't there? In Mobile, Darwin Singleton, NBC 15 News.
