MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The president of Alabama's Public Service Commission wants AT&T to drop the fee it charges customers who have unlisted numbers
PSC President Lucy Baxley says that in exchange, the company would be allowed to stop printing its White Pages listing residential phone numbers.
Baxley says it's fair for the company to end the charge in exchange for not printing the directory. Customers who request a directory could still receive a copy, however.
AT&T charges landline customers $3.50 per month to leave their information out of the directory. AT&T spokesman Hood Harris says a pilot program to drop the directory proved popular in Mobile, and tying its expansion to the fee removal limits customer choice. Baxley acknowledges the commission may not have the authority to demand an end in the fee.
