(MONTGOMERY, Ala.) - Alabama's entire congressional delegation has sent a letter to the president supporting Gov. Robert Bentley's request for a disaster declaration.

Delegation members said the tornadoes and high winds on Jan. 23 hit some of the same areas affected by the April tornadoes and they caused additional strain on state and local resources.

The delegation sent the letter Tuesday.

Bentley sought a disaster declaration to provide aid to Jefferson, Chilton and Perry counties. He said damage assessments show that more than 1,500 houses sustained varying degrees of damage.

One of the tornadoes killed two people in Jefferson County.
