JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Utility companies said Wednesday night they were working to restore power to about 58,900 customers in south and central Mississippi.

Most of the outages at 7 p.m. CDT Wednesday were in the three coastal counties and other areas hardest hit by Isaac.

Entergy Mississippi had nearly 9,900 outages.

Electric power associations, which primarily serve rural customers, had 38,000. That figure includes 19,705 outages for customers served by Coast Electric Power Association.

Earlier in the day, Mississippi Power Co. had reported about 11,000 outages. Updated figures were expected after 9 p.m. CDT.
