(MOBILE, Ala.) - Local 15 News has learned some good news about a major bridge that links the Brookley Aeroplex with Interstate 10.
Alabama Department of Transportation officials confirmed Friday morning that that much delayed Michigan Avenue Bridge will be opened to traffic before the end of the month.
We reported last month that the bridge, being build by L&A Contracting of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was months behind schedule, and the penalties would soon be leveled against the company.
ALDOT now says those penalties, called liquidated damages, are now being applied at the rate of $2,600 per working day until the bridge is finished.
They say it won't be finished until well after the first of the year.
L&A started the project back in May of 2010.
