(MOBILE COUNTY, Ala.)  Oct. 23 --You could be sitting on some extra cash right now and not even know it. The government is trying to hand out money to people along the Gulf Coast -- but it's having a hard time tracking them down.

It's a list, pages long. With so many names yours could be one of them. So in these tough economic times, we thought we'd track down some of these folks who are owed lots of money. We didn't realize it would be this difficult. There are hundreds of refund checks in Mobile County waiting, simply because the taxpayer has moved.

We did get in touch with one couple. The address we found, was actually that of a family member. "He will be glad to get that, because he broke!"  Broke now, but not after this phone call.  We told Chandra and Sedrick King how they can get money-they didn't know they had. His cousin told us, "I wish somebody owed me some money!"  He wasn't on our list-and neither was Mellody Davenport.

The IRS has her address listed, but it's the guy who lived here before, who is owed money.  "I got something from his insurance but I put 'no longer here' and put it in the mailbox and they picked it up.  It's surprising to me that people don't turn in their change of address."

Surprising--but there are more than 500 people who only have to make one phone call to fix that.

If you believe you are owed money, call 1-866-234-2942 or click on the document attached to this story. You can also find more information on the IRS's Web site. A link there is also attached to this story.
