MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Murphy High School Panthers laced up their running shoes for their annual 5K run Saturday. It's the race's 13th year, and while the proceeds usually go to benefit programs at Murphy High School, this year there's a little more urgency in raising the money.

School administrators say it'll take millions of dollars to fix the historic campus. Race organizers say they weren't even sure Saturday's event was going to happen because of the storm just weeks ago.

That's why for the first time since the run began in 2000 it's been relocated to downtown Mobile instead of around the Midtown campus.

Around 350 Murphy High students, parents, faculty and other Mobile runners hit the asphalt in what's usually the Guns-n-Hoses 5K course downtown. They say it's thanks to some quick action by city leaders and race enthusiasts nationwide that got the starting gun fired.
