POINT CLEAR, Ala. (AP) - A 32-mile recreational trail from Battleship Park on the Mobile Causeway to Weeks Bay in south Baldwin County is nearing completion.

A groundbreaking set for 4 p.m. Friday outside the Grand Hotel in Point Clear marks the start of work on another section of the trail supported by the volunteer Baldwin County Trailblazers.

Trailblazers founder Teko Wiseman says after that work, only a one-mile final section requires funding. She had no estimate of the total cost of the trail that runs from Battleship Park to Spanish Fort, then south through Daphne, Montrose, Fairhope and Point Clear.

Wiseman says the Causeway beneath Interstate 10 is being resurfaced and restriped, allowing a 10-feet-wide section for hiking and biking.
