(MOBILE, Ala.) - A fire at Pine Bend Apartments caused about $7,000 worth of damage.
Fire officials say a 3-year-old playing with a lighter caught a mattress on fire.
Fire Department Spokesman Steve Huffman says the child's father was home at the time and was able to put out the fire.
Huffman says the dad admitted he often disables the child-proof latch on lighters.
