(MOBILE, Ala.) - Most belts help you make your pants tighter, but there's 1 belt out there that's actually meant to make your pants fit better. It's called the belly burner and it's a waist trimmer belt designed to help you lose weight. But does it really work? LOCAL 15's Lindsay Bramson puts it to the test in Buy It and Try It.
If it's an ultra body you crave and lifting or running just isn't knocking those pounds off, maybe the belly burner is for you. You've probably seen the commercial but, does it really help you lose weight and tone those abs like it claims? We decided to buy it and try it.
"It seems a little silly," says 28 year old Brad Latta. But he decided to try it anyway, first wearing it during sit ups. It's only been a couple minutes and already Brad says it's uncomfortable. He adds, "and it feels like it's compressing things I don't need compressed."
Here's the thought process behind it. You wear it tight around your waist causing you to sweat faster and burn more calories. But Dave Grimes with Omni Health and Fitness says the only thing that's going to cause you to burn more calories is cardio. Grimes says "so, in conjunction of actually wearing the belt around your waist you're pretty much just going to sweat."
"I'm definitely starting to sweat more around my stomach. I hope this thing works like a shammy," says Brad. He thought maybe running on the treadmill with it would be more comfortable, but he says it's not. "I usually do about 4 miles. I'm already uncomfortable after 6 minutes," he says.
Brad says lifting with it and doing sit ups was nothing more than uncomfortable but says it really interfered with his run.
