(MOBILE, Ala.) - A new cruise line could be coming to Mobile sooner than many people thought. Carnival will say it's farewell to the Port City later this month.

LOCAL 15 News sources say a company is working out a contract with Mobile and we are told the two sides are close to an agreement. Spot of Tea Owner Ruby Moore tells LOCAL 15 News she overheard a Norwegian Cruise Lines representative talking about the deal as the cruise line celebrated at her restaurant.

Another source inside city hall tells LOCAL 15 News, an agreement has been reached.

Mayor Sam Jones and Norwegian Cruise Lines both deny that a deal has been reached, telling us that negotiations are on-going.

LOCAL 15 News spoke with Mayor Jones's spokesperson Barbara Drummond Monday evening. She says this is speculation, but it's "good" speculation.

"The mayor stresses that the city treats this like any other economic development project where negotiations are extremely sensitive," Drummond said. "Speculations, no matter how credible the source, could hurt our chances of securing a new ship."

So this nosy woman at Spot of Tea eavesdropped on her customers' conversation and this becomes the basis of the big story at WPMI? This says alot about the reliability and integrity of this "news" station. If you listen to Ruby Moore's interview, she says she overheard these NCL employees talking about a contract but there is no indication she actually knew what the contract was for. She made an assumption and WPMI ran it as if it was going to happen. Even if it does turn out to be true, WPMI's journalistic ethics are seriously lacking.

Continued from previous post that exceeded 200 characters limit - If I were a business owner and Mobile was trying to convince me to locate a business in Mobile, and I had little interest in doing so, then the city would have to pay ME a tremendous amount to come to Mobile (oh, wait, maybe that is what the city is planning to do to get a ship?).

Yes, what has Mobile bribed the cruise line with? Free everything (including fuel) - no doubt! And all the city gets is the PARKING REVENUE?? What a shame that the city loses so much to gain a small tourist attraction. Mobile needs to put its name on the national tourist map!! Mobile has to become a major destination like New Orleans, Atlanta, Orlando, or just about anywhere that has invested in huge tourist attractions that draw literally millions of visitors yearly. Moon pies, museums, and parks draw some people, but not over and over again. Mobile has to get out from under some of its debt and use the saved money to bring in major tourist industries such as amusement parks, race tracks, water parks, aquariums, and zoos. Mobile loses out big time by practically giving the city away when they try to lure (beg?) someone to bring their business to Mobile. If these companies wanted to come to Mobile in the first place, they would be falling all over themselves trying to BRIBE Mobile to let them come to the city!!! However, the reputation of Mobile precedes any efforts by the city and the entire country has been made aware of Mobile's criminal element and the city's failed business ventures (most have not paid for themselves, have they?). Maybe the city's moon pie will surprise everyone and bring in enough money on New Years to pay off all of the outstanding debts of the city - NOT! The city should revive the Azelea Trail and use this to promote the city, along with the nationally famous Azelea Trail Maids. Make the Azelea Trail run a national event, and retire the moon pie as Mobile's icon and raise up the Azelea Blossum as the true symbol of Mobile and it's colorful culture. Making Mobile desirable is the goal, and using coertion and give-a-ways to convince a cruise ship to come to Mobile just lower's Mobile's prestige in the eyes of the world. If I were a business owner and Mobile was trying to convince me to locate a business in Mobile, and I had little intere

Any news is good news regarding a new cruise line. Carnival was good for Mobile and I know I paid more for the cruises I went on out of Mobile on Carnival than the current prices out of New Orleans. I think it was more politics than profit as to why Carnival chose to leave. The Mexican ports were gettig old. Maybe a new company with some different destinations will be good for this market. A good cruise at a fair price will be something to look forward to. Good luck. We need a new ship.

Aint no cruise line in their right mind is gonna come to Mobile. Hey y'all, they see the crime going on downtown. Has the mayor lost what mind he had. I just wonder what he has promised the cruise lines and how much it's gonna cost the tax payer.???
