MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) -  Mobile Police are searching for the person who carjacked a woman while she was taking out the trash Sunday morning. "By the time she closed the thing up, he jumped behind and pushed her down and took her car and pulled off; she screamed and hollared," said neighbor Clifton Lyles.

The crime happened at the Magnolia Place Apartments around 10:14 am., officials said. "We thought someone had gotten hit by a car because we heard a boom, then we heard somebody yelling," neighbor Paris Coleman told Local 15 News.

According to neighbors, the woman, who has not been identified, was screaming for help and they came outside to see the man driving away in her car, a white 1999 Honda Accord He was last seen heading down Springhill Avenue. Neighbors have grown increasingly frustrated with safety in the area despite having a security officer on the property.

"You can't have security all the time, we have to look at our surroundings," Pecola Coleman said, "We are our own security, when you don't have nobody else to look after you, you have to look out for yourself."

Police found the vehicle an hour later at Saint Stephens Road and Lafayette Street.

Investigators have not named any suspects in the case. Anyone with information to help solve the crime is asked to call Mobile Police at 251-208-7211.
