(MOBILE, Ala.) - Even though a number of Walmart stores in the Mobile area are on a list of stores purportedly participating in a nationwide Black Friday walkout, it’s unclear if they’re actually going to happen.

The union supporting the strikes, United Food & Commercial Workers, has promised 1,000 nationwide non-violent protests. The online list of participating locations can be found at http://www.CorporateActionNetwork.org

Walmart stores from Mobile to Bay Minette are on the list, but employees Local 15 spoke to off camera said they had not heard of any planned walkout and were surprised their store was on the list.

Local 15 reached out to UFCW, seeking an interview opportunity with someone organizing a local protest. A spokeswoman responded by e-mail, saying they could not immediately find someone but offered an interview with a striking employee outside our area.

Walmart issued a written statement to Local 15, saying, “The reality is that there are only a handful of associates, at a handful of stores scattered across the country that are participating in these UFCW made for TV events.”

Local stores on the online list have “TBD” for the time the protest is supposed to start.

The employees can not leave because they have no job to go to. We are in hard times and have just elected a president that will give us at least five more years of this economic problem.

It is because the employees are scared of repercussions and retaliations from the upper management!! So it is up to us, the consumers/customers/buyers to stand up for those employees and let the corporations know that we are not buying into their poor treatment of their employees. Everyone deserves to be treated with human dignity and respect. Boycott Black Friday!!! Shop local.
