(MOBILE, Ala.) It was September of 2011 when Darryl Casher was gunned down outside the now-vacant Club Atlantis in downtown Mobile. Sixteen months later, his family members gathered for the start of the trial.
"I feel pretty good," says Casher's mom Dianne. "I prayed and I gave it to the good Lord and I have faith in God, and I know that justice will be served for my son."
The man on trial is 20-year-old Cedric Burroughs. Police say Burroughs and Casher got into a confrontation inside the club that spilled out into the street. That's when Casher was fatally shot.
"I remember my grandson as a beautiful, handsome, intelligent young man," says his grandmother Marsha.
When Casher's family members spoke with us back in 2011, Dianne had a few ideas about what should be done. She suggested closing club Atlantis and starting a teen curfew in Mobile. In the year that followed, both of those wishes became a reality. Now, as the trial gets underway, says there's just one more thing she wants.
"I want the guy that killed my son, I want him off the streets," she says.
