This is odd, dump trucks are usually not on the roads at this time of the night. Here is the problem, SPEED! As a driver that uses the tunnel several times a day I see tractor trailers slowing down less than 35 MPH going east and those are the safe drivers. Then I see the cowboys that ignore the rumble strips, the flashing warning lights that indicate the vehicle it traveling too fast approaching the eastbound entrance and often times they wreck. The dump truck drivers will probably be found at fault and if their speed exceeded the safe lawful speed they are at fault no matter what. The tunnel and ALDOT can verify the speed through electronic data and cameras and this will explain a lot about how this tragedy happened. All the cameras will show the exact time, exact vehicles movements, and who and what was the cause. Dump truck drivers, container haulers, dump bucket drivers and dry bulk tanker drivers are verifiably the very worst drivers on the roads calling themselves professionals.
