(MOBILE, Ala.) - The Commodores will plug in and play to ring in the new year at Mobile's Moon Pie Drop.

Today, city leaders gathered to hoist the LED Moon Pie to its perch atop the RSA BankTrust building in downtown Mobile.

The festivities started with a paper mache moon pie just a few years ago. The event has been growing in popularity year by year.

This year there will be three music stages with diverse local and regional acts.

Last years event drew 60,000 people downtown, this year City officials are predicting more than 100,000 people.

Organizers say Mobile's new year economic impact will be 5.1 million dollars.
